The program
The concert opens with the energetic Allegro from Viernes' Second Symphony, followed by two atmospheric movements from Karg-Elert's Trois Impressions: Clair de Lune and La Nuit. A highlight is Franck's monumental Choral No. 3. The English organ tradition resonates in Allegretto grazioso by Frank Bridge and Fantasie Choral No. 2 by Percy Whitlock, who structured his work as a series of free variations on a folk-song-like theme. The concert concludes with the virtuos virtuoso Toccata by the Scottish composer James MacMillan.
