This concert takes you on a musical journey. It blends traditional sounds from the Middle East with contemporary jazz. Singer Sanem Kalfa and percussionist Háshem Kabreet accompany 16 young talents. You will experience unexpected musical encounters during this performance.
Eight students from the Amsterdam Conservatory are collaborating with eight musicians from the Middle East. They present new repertoire, created especially for this occasion. Sanem Kalfa and Háshem Kabreet directed the creation of the music.
Sanem Kalfa, a Turkish singer, is known for her unique style. She combines jazz, improvisation, and world music. After studying cello in Turkey, she moved to the Netherlands for vocal lessons. Kalfa has won prizes, such as first prize at the Shure Montreux Jazz Vocal Competition. Quincy Jones directed this competition.
Háshem Kabreet is a passionate percussionist, handpan player, and composer. He has a rich background in Arabic and Middle Eastern music. He currently lives and works in the Netherlands. Kabreet is Artistic Coordinator at Orchestre Partout and leader of the ÁMÀL Ensemble. He plays various percussion instruments.
