Nina Simone, known as The High Priestess of Soul, was a singer, pianist, songwriter, and civil rights activist. Although she was primarily known as a jazz singer, she combined styles such as gospel, blues, folk, pop, and classical music in her music. No other popular singer was as closely connected to the civil rights movement as Simone.
