Jaap van Zweden has frequently impressed with his Beethoven interpretations in the Great Hall, both with the major Dutch symphony orchestras and with top international orchestras such as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic. Among his countless acclaimed CD recordings are the complete Beethoven symphonies with the Residentie Orchestra. During the closing concert of this summer of music, Jaap van Zweden conducts the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in Beethoven's groundbreaking Ninth Symphony .
Ode to joy
The vocal parts from the famous final movement 'Ode to Joy' of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony are performed by the Prague Philharmonic Choir and four top soloists. The oldest professional choir in the Czech Republic, founded in 1935, has been led by Lukáš Vasilek since 2007 and has grown into a sought-after partner of leading international orchestras and conductors, with performances in the most prestigious concert halls worldwide. The renowned baritone Matthias Goerne also performs as soloist in John Adams' The Wound Dresser, which opens the concert.

We also present a host of young talent in our summer concerts, including youth orchestras from Ukraine and the United States, and top young classical soloists. After many of the concerts, we offer a meet-and-greet with the artists in an informal setting, or an afterparty with DJ in the Entrance Hall. In one of the world’s finest concert halls, there’s something for everyone this summer at The Concertgebouw!
