From Mozart to Dvořák

With two pianos, the possibilities also double. With music for twenty fingers, symphonies could be brought into the living room, but unspoken feelings could also be shared. Mozart wrote his Sonata , KV 448, to play together with his pupil Josephine Auernhammer, who was two years younger; Clara Schumann regularly performed Robert's Andante and Variations with her beloved friend Johannes Brahms. Sometimes commercial motives aided the inspiration: publisher Simrock constantly asked Dvořák for new Slavonic Dances , and they sold like hotcakes.
