Final of the Nationaal Cello Concours

The Nationaal Cello Concours is the leading cello competition in the Netherlands and is part of the Cello Biënnale Amsterdam. Young cellists from all over the Netherlands compete for the title. After previous rounds, three finalists remain. They will play the final at the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam.

Shostakovich as the ultimate test

The final work is Cello Concerto No. 1 by Dmitri Shostakovich. This concerto places high demands on technique and expression. The music alternates from deep melancholy to fierce energy, and requires great virtuosity. All three finalists play the same work, so you can easily compare them with each other.

Together with the CvA Symphony Orchestra

The finalists are not alone on stage. The CvA Symphony Orchestra — the symphony orchestra of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam — will accompany them live. This makes the performance a full concert experience, also for you as a listener in the hall.

Who will win the title?

At the end of the evening, the jury will announce who the winner is. As a visitor, you are in the front row for this exciting moment. Are you interested? You can find more information about tickets via the link on this page.
