Duo 12-21, consisting of Bárbara Macedo (Portugal) and Kelly Johannes (Estonia), brings an innovative perspective to guitar music. Both talented guitarists are studying at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. They challenge the traditional boundaries of the instrument by switching between classical and electric guitar, which creates a dynamic dialogue between two different sound worlds.

Symbolism

The name 12-21 symbolizes the connection between contrasting elements that nevertheless share a common identity. The repertoire of Duo 12-21 is broad. You will hear works by classical composers such as J.S. Bach and C. Debussy, but also modern pieces by Steve Reich, Philip Glass and Tõnu Kõrvits. In addition, they play their own arrangements of jazz musicians such as Tigran Hamasyan and Brad Mehldau. Bárbara Macedo and Kelly Johannes both play both the classical and the electric guitar, which gives their performances a special depth.
