About I Filarmonici di Roma
The chamber orchestra “I Filarmonici di Roma” was founded on the initiative of its chairman Guido Casarano. Together with some colleagues from the orchestra of the Ente Ceciliano, he founded the “Association of the Chamber Orchestra of Santa Cecilia” in 1976. From the start, the orchestra enjoyed great success with the press and public.
“I Filarmonici di Roma” has given concerts under the baton of conductors such as Giulini, Sawallisch, Pretre, Metha, Zecchi and Menuhin and with soloists such as Milstein, Menuhin, Asciolla, Szeryng, Rostropovic and Rubinstein. Over the years, the orchestra has completed important foreign tours, performing in the world's leading concert halls. It worked intensively with violinist and conductor Uto Ughi and offers a very extensive repertoire ranging from baroque music to contemporary music, which can be performed in various formations.
It collaborates with the most prominent concert associations and often participates in initiatives of high humanitarian importance, organized by Amnesty International, the Italian Foundation for Cancer Research, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the Red Cross and the FAO.
The orchestra was awarded the gold medal “For admirable concert activities of a high standard both in Italy and abroad” at the Campodiglio in Rome and received a plaque from the European Parliament with the text “To the Orchestra I Filarmonici di Roma that has expressed Italian music worldwide at the highest level.”
