Brad Mehldau
He is a lyrical, intimate, unique voice in contemporary jazz: pianist Brad Mehldau. A musician who forges his own path, through jazz, pop, and classical music... A path that has earned him critical acclaim and considerable international recognition. He has also collaborated with artists as diverse as Pat Metheny, Renee Fleming, and Joshua Redman. Meanwhile, Mehldau continues to garner awards and admiration from both jazz purists and music lovers everywhere. His forays into other genres, both with his trio and solo, have yielded brilliant reworkings of songs by contemporary songwriters like the Beatles, Cole Porter, Radiohead, Paul Simon, Gershwin, and Nick Drake. This, in addition to his ever-expanding catalog of original compositions. The New York Times succinctly summed it up: "Brad Mehldau is the most influential jazz pianist of the past 20 years."
Jazz and pop music
It goes without saying that The Concertgebouw and jazz & pop music make a perfect combination. The stages of both the Main Hall and the Recital Hall have borne witness to nearly the whole of jazz history. Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald have both performed here, as have Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong. Famous pop stars and bands that have graced the stage of the Main Hall include Frank Zappa, the Doors and the Eagles, to name but a few. Legendary concerts, in the present as well as the past.
