Amsterdam Klezmer Band

Mix a dose of klezmer with a pinch of jazz, some Balkan and a dash of gypsy and voilà, you have the recipe for Amsterdam Klezmer Band. In the AKB-LAB series, the band seeks inspiration from musicians from unexpected sources. This edition it is singer Salah Eddine Mesbah and drummer Mischa Porte.

Salah Eddine Mesbah represents an emerging generation of Sufi spiritual vocalists. Born in Tangier, Morocco, the singer made a big impression in the Netherlands as a soloist with the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra.

Mischa Porte discovered the magic of African drums at the age of 6 under the guidance of his teacher Mangue Camara from Guinea. Porte's passion lies in amplifying musical stories, which he has done for artists such as Pitou and Luwten.

The Amsterdam Klezmer Band has been around for more than 25 years. Founded in Café De Nieuwe Lelie by frontman Job Chajes and bassist Jasper de Beer, the band grew into a multi-piece formation with a fantastic live reputation, from Paradiso and the Concertgebouw to Sziget and Lowlands.
