Waterland

The Waterland landscape is a scenic area located north of Amsterdam along the Markermeer (lake). Here you'll find green meadows, grazing cows, colourful villages and traditional farmhouses.

Extensive meadows, waving reed collars, grazing cows and lots of water are the characteristics of this landscape. In Waterland, you will find ribbon villages with colourful wooden houses and bell-shaped farms. The area has large and small nature reserves and day recreation areas such as Hemmeland and Het Purmerbos.

Hemmeland is a peninsula located in the Gouwzee near Monnickendam. The area offers many recreational opportunities for swimmers and hikers. On the east side, there are beaches for swimming and playgrounds. Hemmeland Marina offers plenty of options for water sports. Several beautiful, varied cycling and walking routes have been set out in Waterland Landscape, but you can also explore Waterland using cycling junctions. You can also enjoy sailing in Waterland and enjoy nature on an electric whisper boat.

For all the possibilities and even more ideas, visit the Landschap Waterland website.
