New store: Hermès
Sandwiched between Christian Louboutin and Anne Fontaine, only metres from where the Netherlands’ first Hermès store was located on Amsterdam’s poshest shopping street, there’s a new location with more space for the 182-year-old French luxury house’s iconic silk scarves and famous Birkin bags. You’ll find those scarves on the ground floor, along with perfumes, costume jewellery, pret-a-porter, shoes and accessories (M/F). The home collection is on the mezzanine, and up the sculptural wooden staircase the fine jewellery, watches and leatherware collections for him and her.

New menu: Bluespoon Restaurant & Bar
At the Andaz Amsterdam hotel, where your lunch is served in a former library transformed by Dutch design idol Marcel Wanders, your three-course “Dutch with a twist” menu (€32.50) could include a punchy gnocchi (pictured) with truffle and Boeren Goudse oplegkaas (a crumbly aged raw-milk Dutch farmer’s cheese); a delicate plate of plaice with beurre blanc sauce and watercress; and local Lambada strawberries with rhubarb and matcha.

New store: Matcha Mafia
Having developed a taste for matcha lattes while modelling in New York, Marije Achterbosch dreamed of bringing 100% natural Ceremonial Grade Matcha to the Netherlands. After teaming up with her business-minded boyfriend and a retail-savvy friend, tea bar and shop Matcha Mafia became the realisation of that vision. In addition to two seasonal specials, you can choose from eight types of lattes, which can be enjoyed hot or cold, with a selection of vegan milk. There are lemonades, juices, matcha power balls and chia pudding jars, too. Grab it to go or relax in the eclectic upstairs tea lounge.

New alcohol-free cocktail menu: Sea Palace
This floating pagoda-style restaurant in Oosterdok has long been a go-to spot for curing Chinese comfort food cravings but even this classic Cantonese is moving with the times. A new 5-course menu pairs dim sum with teetotal tea cocktails made with Seedlip – which the menu claims is world’s first distilled non-alcoholic spirits. Try the chicken-and-shiitake dumplings with a citrusy “Grove Spritz” and the custard-filled buns with a “PiNO Colada”.

New stand: Pastrami at Foodhallen
Amsterdam’s original high-end food hall is still drawing in the crowds five years after opening, but the new food stand Pastrami is an excellent excuse to (re)visit. The brioche buns stuffed with locally cured pastrami, pickles and horseradish sauce comes highly recommended but the corned beef melt with Swiss cheese and sauerkraut is decadently delicious, too. Whatever you order, don’t forget to admire the former tram depot’s original features – exposed tram rails, raw brickwork walls, arched olive doors, soaring glass ceilings – and check out the adjacent shops.

New menu: Breakfast at Pause at Pulitzer
Hidden at the heart of the 25 historical canal houses that make up the Pulitzer Amsterdam hotel you’ll find a gorgeous garden café with green velvet GUBI chairs, marble tables, and iconic views of the Westerkerk church steeple. There’s also a new all-day breakfast menu (served until 16:00) with trendy offerings such as acai bowls, avo toast, fruity pancake stacks, and Eggs Royale served on crispy hash browns.

New store: M.A.C Cosmetics PRO store
The Canadian makeup brand’s new flagship store in central Amsterdam features a colourful 8-metre mural by Dutch artist Loes van Delft (pictured) and claims to “tap into the zeitgeist” by using “the latest digital tools, a training room, a photo studio and content creation possibilities”.
