De Steek

De Steek started in January 2019 and has a Sewing Café and fabric shop in Amsterdam. Various workshops and courses are also given in the studio, all in the field of fashion and textiles.
About the Steek
Founded by Dutch fashion designer Natalie de Koning, who had 8 years of experience teaching sewing before DE STEEK. With DE STEEK, Natalie wanted to reach a larger audience and inspire more people to learn sewing, craft and repair techniques.
The studio in Amsterdam consists of a small fabric and haberdashery shop, specialized in natural and sustainable fabrics and haberdashery; but also a Sewing Café, where we give sewing lessons and rent out work tables; plus a workshop space with a changing program of workshops & courses. Several fashion designers and textile artists work at DE STEEK who make this possible.
De Steek's mission is to teach everyone who wants to learn how to make, repair and apply craft techniques to clothing. The idea is to make it easier for people to choose sustainable options, by offering sustainable or recycled materials, repair workshops or swap events and creating awareness in a local environment.
