On January 4th, Circus Andersom is hosting Aarderoeren at Ruigoord, a centuries-old midwinter celebration with a contemporary twist. Aarderoeren offers a moment of calm in a busy time and invites you to move, feel, and reflect on what's important. It's a special experience for anyone seeking connection en meaning.
Aarderoeren takes place during the twelve midwinter nights, the darkest days around New Year's Eve. In old winter traditions, this moment was considered a time to close out the year and make room for what is to come. Circus Andersom translates this into an accessible, contemporary format that emphasizes peace, mindfulness, and togetherness.
Why now?
The Christmas holidays are full of activity, but also full of the need for peace. Aarderoeren offers a place to slow down and be together, amidst the hustle and bustle. Everyone is welcome to join. We invite you to bring a little soil from a place dear to you, such as a tree in the park, your birthplace, the soil from your vegetable garden, or the burial place of a loved one. By combining all this soil, a shared ground is created: a place where people stir, listen, sing, drink hot chocolate, sit by the fire, and meet each other naturally.
