Contemporary designs mix with age-old symbolism
The Luther Museum Amsterdam displays a wide range of textile works of art created especially for the church by well-known artists and designers.
The reason is the presentation of a new communion cloth by the young Rotterdam artist Koen Taselaar, which was dedicated in the museum during the Ascension celebration and will be put into liturgical use by various churches in the country this autumn.
The exhibition shows altar cloths, tapestries, rugs, antependia and stoles that highlight the rich tradition of faith, art and culture. Textile works of art that are still in use in the church almost every week, as 'living heritage'.
Discover with this summer exhibition how textiles play an essential role in the story of the Lutherans in the Netherlands and beyond. With work by: Koen Taselaar, Wim Crouwel, Willy Pennings, Bonne Kazemier, Marja-Liisa Schepel, Folly Hemrica and Margreet Scholten.
