Our Colonial Legacy - Wereldmuseum Amsterdam
More than the 'familiar' history
Colonialism is not something of the past. It has shaped the world: our physical, mental and personal world. Colonialism continues to influence us to this day. In the exhibition "Our Colonial Legacy," we explore Dutch colonial history and presence in Indonesia, Suriname, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and many other countries. Here, you won't encounter the 'familiar' history; there is much more to discover.
The exhibition reveals how colonialism helped shape the world today, and how people withstood colonialism. Learn how individuals endeavoured to create their own lives, rebelled against the status quo, and sought to regain control over their destinies. Are you open to a polyphonic narrative that encompasses various perspectives?
