Black and white portraits of drag kings and queens

Photographer Marina Marinkovic captures drag kings and queens in the studio in her series Drag Joy . The portraits are taken from the female gaze: a perspective that emphasizes vulnerability and relatability. Marinkovic was welcomed into the Dutch drag scene in 2024 and has felt connected to this community ever since.

An ode to freedom and self-expression

The photos show drag artists able to express themselves with complete openness and freedom. Joy and inner strength take center stage. The series is both a protest against the rising violence against drag artists and a tribute to who they are.
