Erik Klein Wolterink
With his image column in Het Parool, Klein Wolterink reaches around 100,000 readers every week, giving them a glimpse into the history of the city. The photographer crosses the city in search of unique images and the stories behind them. He chooses photos from the archives that surprise and arouse curiosity. He ignores standard photos or cliché images of the city. The combination of old and new photos invites you to discover differences and similarities, making the changes in Amsterdam visible. Klein Wolterink's project shows the development of the city and the rich history of urban photography. From now on, the exhibition lets you move through the city with a different perspective and brings the archive to life.
Déjà vu
Déjà vu is about place and time. A place in and around the city is captured based on a snapshot from the past. For example, discover the shortest highway in the Netherlands, which used to be a busy highway on Museumplein. Or take the Diemerpark: now an area to find birds and plants, but once a rubbish dump that seriously threatened the biodiversity of the region. Amsterdam continues to renew itself with new buildings, disappearing structures, evolving green spaces, and countless stories to discover - if you just look closely.
Photo competition
The exhibition offers space for interaction and reflection, encouraging everyone to navigate the city and record the changes. Which places do you choose? A photo competition gives you the chance to be part of this exhibition. Two walls are reserved for new contributions. Anyone can submit photos - the best will be added to the exhibition in the City Archives! Rules of the game
Workshops
The City Archives also offers urban photography courses this summer led by local photographers. The participants learn more about creating a Déjà vu. How do you search for historical images in the Image Bank of the City Archives? What should you pay attention to when making your choices? How do you get started as a photographer yourself? Keep an eye on the website for more information.
