Two photographers

An installation by Kevin Osepa (b. 1994, Willemstad, Curaçao) and work from the archive of photographer Hannes Wallrafen (b. 1951, Mönchengladbach, Germany).

Public events will be held around the exhibition. On May 11, for example, there will be an Art Café in which both artists will talk about their art practice.

Storytelling with a link to memories, history, culture and identity connects the work of these two artists. They found a common source in the sound fragments Wallrafen recorded in Curaçao in the year he went blind. These form the starting point for Osepa's new work. He takes the 2004 sounds back to the island and sets out to find a new perspective on cultural identity there by sharing the sounds and having conversations with people who have often invisible perspectives. Perspectives that are underrepresented within the community. He translates the personal anecdotes into art. Sound proves to be the driver of memories of the Curaçao community, made visible in a layered installation with photos, films and sound.

The exhibition is accessible for visually impaired people through a Guide ID guidance in the exhibition at CBK Zuidoost and there is a relief 2.5D print by Daphne Wagenman after a photograph by Kevin Osepa to feel this photograph. The outdoor exhibition at the Hoekenrodeplein in front of Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA station has been made accessible by means of Navilens QR codes.

The work in front of the station is accessible 24 hours per day; at CBK Zuidoost during opening hours.
