30 years Storioni Trio
The Storioni Trio is widely regarded as one of the world's leading piano trios. The ensemble takes its name from the violin built by Storioni in 1794, which is played by Wouter Vossen. In their early years, the three musicians worked extensively with the Vermeer Quartet, violinist Isaac Stern, cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, and pianist Menahem Pressler. By now, in their thirty years together, they have performed in almost every chamber music hall in the world and are highly regarded globally. They are celebrating their fifth anniversary in the Main Hall with Beethoven's festive Triple Concerto.
Beethoven's Triple Concerto
Beethoven's Triple Concerto is a rarity. Thousands of violin concertos must have been written over the course of time, at least as many piano concertos, and a considerable number of cello concertos. But a concerto for violin, cello, and piano is rarely seen. When Ludwig van Beethoven began work on the Triple Concerto for violin, cello, piano, and orchestra, he must have taken the concerto grosso, so popular in the Baroque era, as his model. The slow movement, in which the cello plays a major role, is truly beautiful, and the catchy themes of the first and last movements vie to see which one is the best to hum along to.
