GoYa Quartet, Rosa Meertens & Ruben Jacobs
Discover the powerful interplay of music, poetry and art with the GoYa Quartet (KCO). Together with the young Dutch painter Rosa Meertens and author Ruben Jacobs, they give nature a voice in the urgent conversation about the climate crisis. During the concert, the musicians step outside the structure of traditional concerts to raise awareness about the climate crisis and gender equality. Experience the inspiration from nature in the music of Debussy, Grieg, Takemitsu and Imogen Holst, enriched by Rosa Meertens's paintings and the philosophical insights of Ruben Jacobs. Join them to create space for change, where every note and brushstroke speaks for a world in need!
GoYa Quartet, Rosa Meertens & Ruben Jacobs
The GoYa Quartet was founded in 2014 and is formed by Sylvia Huang, Mirelys Morgan Verdecia, Saeko Oguma and Honorine Schaeffer. These four musicians, from Belgium, Cuba, Japan and France, have found each other in the orchestra in which they play: the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. After years of dedicated collaboration, they are pleased to announce their debut CD, which they will record live this evening. Witness the highest musical level in the atmospheric ambiance of De Waalse Kerk.
Rosa Meertens is a student at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, where she mainly focuses on painting. In her work she explores themes such as transience, fleeting moments, existence and non-existence, and memories. In her spare time she often attends concerts, where music is her greatest source of inspiration.
Ruben Jacobs is a writer, teacher at the Utrecht School of the Arts, and is currently training to become a nature guide. His work mainly focuses on the relationship between people and nature. He was previously a journalist for VPRO, NTR and Brainwash, and wrote several books, including 'Everyone an artist' (2014), 'Artonauten' (2018), and 'The Century of Felix' (2022). He is currently working on a book about a historic vegetable garden in the woods of the Gooi, which currently serves as a therapeutic garden (expected in early 2025 from Thomas Rap publishers).
