Philharmonic of the Aa
Filharmonie Der Aa from Groningen consists of advanced amateurs supplemented by professionals. For this project, the orchestra will collaborate with the Groot Concertkoor Amsterdam. The soloists are soprano Aylin Sezer and mezzo-soprano Carina Vinke. Filharmonie Der Aa is conducted by Jacob Slagter, former principal horn player of the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Symphony No. 2 by Gustav Mahler
The Second Symphony, 'Auferstehung', is Gustav Mahler's most spiritual work and revolves around life and death, redemption and resurrection. The piece calls for an exceptionally large ensemble featuring a full symphony orchestra, mixed choir, vocal soloists, offstage orchestra, and organ. Gustav Mahler's ties with the Concertgebouw are legendary. After Vienna, Amsterdam was Mahler's second city: he called the city his 'second musical homeland'. He conducted the Second Symphony himself with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1904.
