Annual Gala
The Concertgebouw Orchestra's grand Annual Gala (dress code: black tie) begins with a reception at 7:30 PM; after the gala concert, everyone is welcome in the foyers of the Concertgebouw to mingle with each other and the musicians and enjoy the afterparty until midnight.
Jaap van Zweden & Leonidas Kavakos
Under the direction of Jaap van Zweden, the Concertgebouw Orchestra performs grand and compelling music by Korngold, Wagner, and Respighi. Leonidas Kavakos is the soloist in Korngold's Violin Concerto – with its beautiful melodies, the Austrian composer drew on his extensive experience as a film composer in Hollywood. Wagner was a key inspiration for film composers. He woven the opening and ending of his opera Tristan und Isolde , the story of a fateful love, into a grand and compelling orchestral work.
Respighi's Pini di Roma
In his colorful declaration of love to ancient Rome, Pini di Roma, Italian composer Respighi pulled out all the stops with the orchestra to conjure up images. The work has deservedly remained popular; Jaap van Zweden brings this delightful music to the public.
