Story of Amsterdam

A two-hour walk weaves together facts, stories, and heroes. You start at the Homomonument, the world's first monument to LGBT victims of World War II. Walk through beautiful historic Amsterdam and enjoy the surroundings.

Discover gay history

During the walk, your guide tells you about the gay history of the Netherlands. You will hear, for example, about being lesbian in the 17th century and persecution throughout various centuries. The 1970s, when women's emancipation began, are also covered. At that time, a writer captured our individual responsibility.

Amsterdam and marriage

Amsterdam was known as the gay capital of the world. You will learn how same-sex marriage came about. The tour ends at Café 't Mandje, which opened in 1927. At that time, gays were still actively persecuted. Enjoy the beautiful walk and a fascinating history.
