De Grote Amsterdam Quiz
On 27 October 2023, the final of De Grote (The Big) Amsterdam Quiz took place. To mark the city's 748th birthday, 54 teams battled to win the grand prize at the H'ART Museum event, and viewers could play along live from home. The participating teams had won a preliminary round earlier in October. They competed in the final for a grand prize and, of course, eternal fame as the Amsterdam experts of the year! In the lead-up to Amsterdam's 750th birthday in 2025, a new edition of De Grote Amsterdam Quiz will be held in October.

Admire the 'Toll Privilege'
Every year on Amsterdam's birthday, you can observe the Tolprivilege (Toll Privilege) from 1275 in the Treasury of the Amsterdam City Archives. This is the oldest written document in which Amsterdam is mentioned. Because the parchment is sensitive to light and temperature fluctuations, this mesmerising artefact can only be shown a few days each year. Each year, a well-known Amsterdammer unveils the Toll Privilege. In 2023, it was the turn of Freek Wallagh, the night mayor of Amsterdam.

It turned out to be a huge success, so much so that SAIL is now held every five years and has become one of the most significant events in the Netherlands. Get this: in 2025, everything coincides with a double celebration - the 10th edition of SAIL and the 750th birthday of Amsterdam. It's going to be a big one!
