Don't miss this: Festival Op de Ring highlights - 21 June 2025
23 June 2025

Amsterdam's anniversary year is reaching its climax. During the last 75 hours of the 750th anniversary, there's still plenty to do: from ADE in the ArenA and the Great Amsterdam Quiz to a 75-metre-long cake, storytelling festival and communal meals. You'll find the list right here.

To celebrate Amsterdam 750, several editions of 24 Hours will take place in 2024 and 2025. During 24 Hours, one district of Amsterdam takes the spotlight for 24 hours, with locations such as theatres, museums, shops, hotels, associations, community centres, and clubs all participating. Residents can join in workshops, tours, and exhibitions - in a rich and varied program for young and old. So whether you are creative or sporty, love music, architecture or good food and drinks, or are laidback or eager to learn, there is something for everyone to experience during 24 hours.

SAIL was initially organised to celebrate Amsterdam's 700th anniversary. It turned out to be a huge success, so much so that SAIL is now held every five years and has become one of the most significant events in the Netherlands. Get this: in 2025, everything coincides with a double celebration - the 10th edition of SAIL and the 750th birthday of Amsterdam. It's going to be a big one!

Every year on Amsterdam's birthday, you can observe the Tolprivilege (Toll Privilege) from 1275 in the Treasury of the Amsterdam City Archives. This is the oldest written document in which Amsterdam is mentioned. Because the parchment is sensitive to light and temperature fluctuations, this mesmerising artefact can only be shown a few days each year. Each year, a well-known Amsterdammer unveils the Toll Privilege. In 2023, it was the turn of Freek Wallagh, the night mayor of Amsterdam.

The anniversary year is a year for looking back and forward. During the ToekomstTiendaagse, we question: what will Amsterdam look like in the future? What will we eat? How will we get around and live together? And how will the city be designed? With exhibitions, open days, conferences, competitions and showcases of innovations, Amsterdam and the rest of the metropolitan region will take the spotlight. Dozens of contributors are working on the programming for the ToekomstTiendaagse, closing with the big Midsummer Festival on the Ring.
