About the Amsterdam Street Theatre!
Internationally renowned companies join forces with young talent. Here, art, culture, and creativity meet in a unique open-air experience that captures the hearts of young and old. The street theatre offers a stage to talented artists who enchant the audience with their impressive acts, ranging from puppetry and stilt walking to music and dance. It is a place where surprises await around every corner and where every performance tells a new story.
The big blue
The new production by Directie&Co with air as the central element. Have you ever seen a performance in which the protagonist is invisible? Big Blue is about that blue dividing line above the horizon. The sky, that colossal thing you can feel but cannot see. You don't think about the sky and the wind. They are there and they are not. But by making them visible and audible, they are temporarily lifted out of anonymity.
Elements is the impressive walk-act by the group Stiltlife StreetTheater. This mobile theatre experience enchants with four giant stilt walkers moving elegantly across a square. The stilt walkers, each representing an element of earth, water, fire, and air, dance and change shape while inviting the audience to move as well, accompanied by rousing music.
Aminal (Wojciech Stachura)
A mobile performance especially for the little ones, a spectacular, sensory street theatre show. A 3.5-meter-tall creature, half spirit (âme), half animal (animal), explores the urban landscape on technical stilts. Aminal is not just a puppet; it is a living installation that communicates through light, movement, and physical touch. In May 2026, they will travel through various Amsterdam districts, always in collaboration with local partners. There is a free afternoon program open to the public, filled with surprising and engaging street theatre for all ages. With this accessible activity, the creators aim to encourage (new) connections in the neighborhood. Everyone is welcome – regardless of color, gender, or social background.
A co-production directed by Annette Hildebrand (STILTLIFE) and Yvonne van den Akker (Directie&Co)
