Holland Festival – The Second Woman - live screening at Tuschinski
100 times 1 scene, for 24 hours
In The Second Woman, Georgina Verbaan repeats one scene 100 times over a 24-hour period. Facing her are 100 different male participants from the local community. In each scene, the two players meet for the first time on stage.
The scene, which lasts about 10 minutes, features a woman and her partner. Their relationship has lost its creativity, romance and vitality. A man comes in. We know as little about him as the actress does. The intense and intimate exchange between her and the participant culminates in a final choice: "I love you" or "I never loved you."
The set design and live footage are inspired by 1970s American independent cinema and the history of women's melodrama, as a genre that portrays women in a stereotypical way.
On stage, sparks fly, the boundaries between fiction and reality blur and the feeling of excitement and fear is palpable.
Practical
The Second Woman takes place simultaneously as a performance on the stage of ITA and on the screen in the Royal Theater Tuschinski.
