A remake that goes beyond the original
In 1978, director Philip Kaufman made a remake of Don Siegel's 1956 science fiction classic. While the original was set in a small American town, Kaufman relocated the story to bustling San Francisco. The result is a gripping thriller, thanks in part to the strong cast featuring Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Jeff Goldblum, and Leonard Nimoy.
What happens when you sleep
Health inspector Matthew Bennell notices that the people around him are changing. They look like themselves, but something isn't right. It soon becomes apparent that alien plants are growing exact copies of humans at night, devoid of emotions or memories. The film cleverly taps into universal fears: loss of identity, paranoia, and the question of who you can still trust.
Suspense until the end
Invasion of the Body Snatchers is known for its grim atmosphere and unexpected twists. To this day, the film is considered one of the best science fiction thrillers ever made. You can watch this film at Lab111, an atmospheric cinema in Amsterdam West. Are you interested? Use the link for tickets.
