First edition
After water, coffee remains the most consumed beverage in the Netherlands. While coffee remains a favorite, tea is definitely gaining ground. A staggering 70% of Dutch people drink tea weekly. During the first edition of the Amsterdam Tea Festival, tea will be in the spotlight. With one hundred exhibitors, an exhibition, and a full-blown Tea Rave, the organizers aim to put tea even more firmly on the map.
Tea is a culture in itself
According to the World Tea Academy, tea is the most consumed beverage after water and also one of the oldest drinks in the world, having been enjoyed for over 5,000 years. Furthermore, offering tea is a gesture of respect and a symbol of hospitality in cultures from Morocco to Japan. Science shows that tea is known for its health benefits, including boosting metabolism and promoting good heart health.
On the program
During the first Amsterdam Tea Festival, visitors can enjoy a diverse cultural program, including live music, dance performances, expert talks, and demonstrations of hand-rolled oolongs and carefully whisked matcha. At the market, you can discover a carefully curated selection of teas, tea sets, and matching tea accessories. An exhibition showcases a mix of traditional and modern tea-related designs. To complete the festival, there's an exhibition dedicated to the history, rituals, and art of tea from various cultures.
