Voices for Children

No fewer than 75 singers and instrumentalists, along with three conductors, join forces in a special program featuring music for choir, string orchestra, ud, and duduk.

The concert opens with Masâr (the way, the path), an Arabic melody arranged for strings, ud, and frame drum. This work flows seamlessly into Jake Runestad's And So I Go On: a moving musical conversation between a deceased person and a loved one left behind, carried by an exceptionally tender and heartbreaking melody.

The program also includes works by Sibelius, Piazzolla, Ešenvalds, Whitacre, Shaw, and Van der Laag, among others, who together create a rich and versatile musical palette. The ensemble builds to an impressive finale in which all the singers and musicians unite in the glorious Dona Nobis Pacem by Pēteris Vasks—a powerful plea for peace. All pieces in the program are conceived to commemorate the situation of children in today's world.

Rascha Eijbersen, former copywriter and promotional director at RTL, founder of Drakentemmer, and programmer and writer at De Rode Hoed, accompanies the program with compelling stories about children in emergency situations.
