Over 13 Ensemble
13 Ensemble, founded in 2024 under the direction of Ester F. Mata, presents a mix of jazz harmonies, contemporary textures, and cinematic soundscapes. The 13-member collective consists of talented wind players, a string quartet, and a rhythm section. Electronic instruments, played by Ester, enrich all of this into a unique sonic experience.
Experience musical depth
Thanks to funding from Amarte, the 13 Ensemble was able to further develop in 2025. This marked an important step in their artistic journey. The musicians actively shape the melodies. They respond to cues and interact with electronic elements. This creates a spontaneous and collaborative soundscape that captivates you.
Enjoy improvisation
The repertoire combines written compositions with free improvisation. Expect raw textures and playful experiments. The ensemble builds confidence through intensive rehearsals. This flexibility and shared musical language ensure dynamic and captivating performances. Electronic elements, with recorded voices and everyday sounds, add expressive depth to the music.
Collaboration and innovation
The 13 Ensemble reflects Ester F. Mata's vision of music as a collaborative practice. Collaboration is central, as is breaking down traditional ensemble roles. The mix of composition and improvisation results in a distinctive and evolving contemporary sound. Highly recommended for lovers of innovative music.
