For the program Traces by piano duo Rabbit&Haas (Hanke Scheffer and Tamara Laverman), Wilbert Bulsink has written a cycle for piano four hands and sampler. The sampler utilizes field recordings he made in 2010 along the edges of Europe, during a bicycle trip through Scandinavia, the Baltic States, Belarus, Ukraine, Romania, and Turkey. You hear voices in various languages, sheep, dogs, cows, crickets, (church) bells, motorcycles, the acoustics of cathedrals, radar domes, and mountain valleys, choral singing, minaret recitations, karaoke, wind, thunderstorms, fire, rain—in the distance, too close, distorted, windblown—everything blends with live piano sounds, virtuously performed by Rabbit&Haas.
