The Rosary Sonatas Gunar Letzbor +& Ars Antiqua Austria
With the Rosary Sonatas (1676), Heinrich Biber made violin history. By tuning the violin differently for each sonata, he opened up a treasure trove of new timbres. The fifteen sonatas vividly evoke moments from the lives of Christ and Mary. Gunar Letzbor—one of the world's greatest Biber interpreters—guides Ars Antiqua Austria from Mary's encounter with the angel to the Ascension. The Rosary Sonatas can be heard at Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ.
