The young Brahms: Frei Aber Froh

Here, the youthful Brahms, before the iconic beard, is heard. Joseph Joachim's quartet premiered. Brahms incorporated Joachim's motto "Frei Aber Einsam" (Free But Einsam) into his music, but gave it his own twist: "Frei Aber Froh." Both the fae and faf notes are prominent in the piece.
