Chineke! Orchestra

Chineke! was founded in 2015 by double bassist Chi-chi Nwanoku to provide career opportunities for Black and ethnically diverse classical musicians in the United Kingdom and Europe. Chineke!'s mission is: 'To be a champion of change and to celebrate diversity in classical music.' In 2017, the Chineke! Orchestra made its BBC Proms debut at the Royal Albert Hall and has performed at many other leading festivals in Europe. Conductor Simon Rattle on Chineke!: 'Chineke! is not only an exciting idea, but also a very necessary idea.'

We focus on composers of color, active in Europe and America, in the past and present. Until recently, many of them were unknown or barely known to the general public. Chineke!
