Violin in solo and duo
Vivian Giesbertz and Lottie Bezemer demonstrate the full capabilities of the violin during this concert. The two violinists perform both solo and together, exploring the breadth of the instrument. Vivian previously studied in the Netherlands and is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold. The two musicians met at the Utrecht Conservatory.
Rarely performed works
The concert opens with two solo works that you do not often hear. Vivian plays the Second Solo Sonata by Paul Hindemith and Sabina by Andrew Norman. Norman wrote this contemporary piece after a morning mass at the Santa Sabina church in Rome. Afterwards, the two violinists perform the Sonata for Two Violins by Sergei Prokofiev together.
Berio and Bartók as inspiration
The program concludes with a selection from the Duets by Luciano Berio. Berio was inspired by the duets for two violins by Béla Bartók, but transformed them into a modern language. In these works, he experiments with dramaturgy and theatrical characters in the music.
Band Relay in the Amstelpark
