Busch Trio
'This trio is the fruit of a long-standing friendship,' is how pianist Omri Epstein describes the spontaneous process in which the Busch Trio came into being after the members met at the Royal College of Music in London. With their sound, they harken back to that of the old masters, including the violinist Adolf Busch, on whose violin Mathieu van Bellen plays. Passionate, intelligent, balanced, and pure is the playing of the Busch Trio, a crowd favorite in the Kleine Zaal.
Schubert and Ives
A program featuring Schubert and Ives is a show of everything's different. Ives retired from music professionally when he was 26 and amassed a fortune in insurance. He composed until he was fifty and then wrote not another note until he died thirty years later. Schubert was penniless, lived to be only 31, and compiled a formidable oeuvre in that short time. The only similarity is that much of their work was not performed until after their deaths. Curious to see if Ives' dazzling Piano Trio holds up alongside Schubert's Second ? The Busch Trio will let you hear.
