Exchange project
As part of an exchange project, the Berlin orchestra Cappella Academica of Humboldt University performs together with the Utrecht Orchestra. In 2025, the Utrecht Orchestra visited Berlin with joint concerts in the Gedächtniskirche and Brandenburg. This year, Cappella Academica comes to Utrecht and plays two pieces together with the Utrecht Orchestra.
Program
The first piece is the Freischütz Overture by Carl Maria von Weber. In the opera that introduces it, love, fear, and dark forces clash, but ultimately the story has a happy ending. After this emotional rollercoaster, Brahms's Second Symphony is performed. The idyllic landscape around Lake Wörthersee in Carinthia deeply inspired Johannes Brahms during the composition of his second symphony. The symphony exudes a cheerful, relaxed atmosphere and distinguishes itself by its lyrical tone. Due to its lyrical and natural character, this piece is also known as the 'Pastoral' and offers a radiant conclusion to the concert.
