Feijoada: The essence of Brazil
Feijoada showcases Brazil's rich cultural mosaic. Traditionally it is a black bean stew with pork and beef, symbolizing the fusion of indigenous, African and Portuguese influences. In this workshop, we'll put a new plant-based spin on feijoada and honor its cultural significance while embracing a future of conscious eating. It is our way of sharing our beloved national dish in the spirit of communal dining.
A decolonial approach to dining
Jungle Brazil's initiative to present a plant-based version of this iconic dish reflects a deeper commitment to decolonizing our diets. By choosing plant-based ingredients, we recognize the need for sustainable practices that respect our planet and its inhabitants. This workshop is a step toward rethinking food sources and preparation methods, paying tribute to the land and its original custodians, and advocating for a global shift toward more ethical consumption.
The workshop experience
Participants dive into the heart of Brazilian culinary traditions, guided by the expert hands of Tahiba and Elton. The session will cover the following:
Tasting the story: A deep dive into the roots of feijoada and its evolution into a symbol of Brazilian identity.
Eco-culinary Creativity: A hands-on cooking experience to create a vegan feijoada that is as rich in flavor as it is in history.
Party with a purpose: A shared meal that is more than just food; it's about forging bonds, sharing stories and envisioning a future where food is a bridge between cultures and a catalyst for change.
Why participate?
This workshop is for anyone who is curious about the intersection of culture, sustainability and good food. It's an opportunity to expand your culinary skills, understand the meaning of conscious eating and be part of a community that values environmental stewardship as much as cultural heritage. At Jungle Brazil, every dish tells a story and every meal is a step towards a more connected and conscious world. Let's cook, learn and dream together so that we make the Vegan Feijoada Workshop an unforgettable highlight of the Holland Festival. Join us to bring the spirit of Brazil to Amsterdam, one plant-based dish at a time!
