The collection consists of manuscripts, first editions, photos, drawings, image and sound material and personal belongings of Thijssen. In addition to the permanent display, which illustrates Thijssen's own life, changing exhibitions give an impression of his social environment and fields of work (daily life in the Jordaan at the end of the last century, education in Thijssen's time, socialism and trade union movement in the first half of the 20th century).
Not just for enthusiasts
In addition to the many enthusiasts of Thijssen's literary work, the museum is interesting for school children, teachers, those interested in social history and the history of Amsterdam and of course also for local residents. The museum also includes a small specialized bookshop, which not only sells publications by and about Thijssen, but also books about and images of the Amsterdam Jordaan.
