  • Amsterdam Central Station

Start the Amsterdam Beach route here.

  • Take the train from Amsterdam Central Station to Zandvoort aan Zee.
  • When you leave the station, go straight on up the steps towards the beach. At the top of the steps, go straight on across the road and under the covered passage. Zilt at Sea is the blue building on the left.
  • Zilt at Sea

Here you can rent the bikes you need to cycle the route.

    09:00 - 18:00
  • Cycle along the road in front of you to the left, towards the beach. Stay cycling to the left of the road. This will take you along the beach on the boulevard. After a 15-minute cycle ride, you’ll see Rapa Nui on the left, on the beach, with a red flag.
  • Rapa Nui

At Rapa Nui, you can have a drink, chill out, and take a refreshing dip in the ocean.

  • Follow the road along the boulevard on the left of the road. Keep cycling on the left through the dunes. With a bit of luck, on the left you’ll see highland cattle. After cycling for about 15 minutes, you’ll come to the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park, which is marked with a large brown sign. Turn into the road here, and you can leave your bike at the end and go for a walk.
  • Nationaal Park Zuid-Kennemerland

Enjoy nature in the distinctive dune landscape of the Dutch coast.

  • Follow the cycle path into the dunes, along a beautiful cycle path winding through the park. There are various places you can stop off for a walk or a picnic. At the intersection with the footpath, go straight on. Ignore all the turnings to the left and keep bearing right. Leave the park, go past the carpark and take a sharp turning to the left. Cycle past the hockey club onto Bergweg. At the end of Bergweg, turn left. You’ll see the ruins of the castle, which you’ll pass on the way back. At the T-junction, turn left onto Middenduinerweg. Follow the signs to Landgoed Duin en Kruidberg on the left. You’ll see the country house and estate on the left.
  • Leave the estate and turn right along the road to start heading back. At the end of the road, turn right again. At the next T-junction, turn right again onto Velserenderlaan. You’ll see the ruin on the left. If you follow the road, you’ll come to the entrance.
  • Ruïne van Brederode

The ruins of this castle take you back to the 13th century.

    12:00 - 17:00
  • With your back to the ruin, turn left. Go straight on along Brederoodseweg. The road turns into a cycle path. Carry on until you come to a narrow cycle path on the right, Aelbertsbergweg. Turn into this path, and at the end, turn right. Follow this road, until it eventually bends to the left, and goes up a steep slope – you might want to get off your bike and walk. For safety, make sure you walk on the pavement.
  • Duinpaviljoen de Uitkijk

Here you are rewarded by a fantastic view across the dunes.

    09:00 - 23:00
  • As you leave the carpark turn right. It’s quite a climb, but then you’re rewarded by a long downhill stretch. Take the first turning on the right into Lonbar Petrilaan, and keep right. At the end, turn immediately right onto Militairenweg. Make sure you go along the cycle path. At the roundabout, take the second exit. Keep following the cycle path to the right. You can really speed down the hill, so take care. Turn right at Duinlustweg. After following the cycle path for a while, you’ll see Kraantje Lek on the right.
  • Kraantje Lek

At the foot of a famous steep dune, Kraantje Lek is a perfect spot to stop off for a break.

    Currently closed
  • Cycle back into the Zuid-Kennemerland National Park, to the right of Kraantje Lek. Follow the road through the woods. Turn left as you leave the park, then at the end of the street, turn right. At the end of this street, cross over the road, and Zilt at Sea is on the right.
  • Zilt at Sea

At the end of the route you can return your bike here.

    09:00 - 18:00
  • Walk back down the stairs at Zilt at Sea, and you'll get to the station.
  •  From Zandvoort Station, it's very easy to get the train back to Amsterdam.
  • Amsterdam Central Station
