Ruïne van Brederode

The Ruin of Brederode is a remnant of the medieval castle of the lords of Brederode. The castle of an older fortress was built around 1355.

Brederode Castle

From a military and commercial point of view, Brederode Castle was very strategic. The marshy peat surrounding the castle significantly reduced the chance of unexpected attacks. Nevertheless, in 1573 the Spanish soldiers managed to loot and burn the castle and it has been in ruins ever since. The castle has limited opening times for a visit.

For young and old

In addition to guided tours and various events, there are also plenty of things to do for children. For our young visitors we have costumes, 'real' wooden horses and a treasure hunt. And we have blocks and barbies for them to rebuild castle Brederode and let barbie maidens live there. There are also regular guided tours for children.

The Ruin of Brederode is open to the public. The access to the Ruin is formed by narrow bridges and is therefore not suitable for wheelchairs.
