KIT Royal Tropical Institute
A former regent’s seat for chairing a meeting in; a majestic room to host a tasteful dinner; marble interiors for a swinging event: the Royal Tropical Institute offers a versatile location for classic and modern events alike. The building has always turned heads, from the moment it opened its doors in 1926 until today. After almost a century, it is considered one of the icons of Amsterdam.
Versatile venue
The historic venue can be customised for events ranging from grand symposia to intimate dinners and is located right by Oosterpark in the bustling eastern part of Amsterdam. There is a beautiful terrace for sunny days; inside, visual references to the tropics create a perpetual summer feeling. In addition to the conference venue, the building also houses the Tropenmuseum, the De Tropen café and restaurant and the Amsterdam Tropen Hotel, situated across the green courtyard.
Sustainability
KIT Royal Tropical Institute is an independent centre of expertise, education and intercultural cooperation, dedicated to sustainable development. KIT embraces the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The building is known as the first SDG House of the Netherlands – with the dozens of organisations housed under its roof, the institutes’ experts work on improving healthcare, food security and gender equality. The profits – including those of conferences and events – benefit research projects for sustainable development. This socially responsible outlook makes for even better meetings and parties.
