Jazz and classical music in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam
Ali Yarıcı and Linda Lukas form a duo that explores the boundary between jazz and 20th-century classical music. Yarıcı studies guitar at the jazz department of the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Lukas initially studied classical violin and is now pursuing her jazz master's at the same conservatory. This combination of backgrounds is reflected in their music.
Original compositions with folk music influences
The program consists of original compositions and improvisations. In these, Yarıcı and Lukas incorporate influences from Turkish and Estonian folk music. Sources of inspiration such as Béla Bartók, Arvo Pärt, and Olivier Messiaen play a role in their musical world. The result is a personal sound that is difficult to categorize into a single genre.
