How do the people of Amsterdam keep their feet dry?
The Sloten Mill is a functioning polder mill and also the only working mill in Amsterdam that is accessible to the public on a daily basis. The mill is located on the edge of the city, near the Ringvaart, and ensures that the water level in the lower area remains below a certain level. It is a working polder mill with a monumental octagon from 1847 rebuilt here. The Sloten Mill has a elevator, so that the elderly and disabled can also reach the outside part.
Children
For children aged 6 and over, there are special guided tours (after registration) that can be combined with a number of attractions (playground) right next to the mill. The tour through the mill is specifically aimed at the experiences of this age group. For a bite and a snap you can go to a traditional snack bar and to the IJshoeve
After the tour through the mill, adults can visit the adjacent beer brewery for a tour and a tasting. The picturesque former village of Sloten is worth a walk, with the rustic village square, the smallest police station in the Netherlands and an original ban pole.
