The City Card in three simple steps

    Get your card
Order your City Card online, or swing by one of our Visitor Centres in Amsterdam to buy one. You can choose to ship your card to your home, to your hotel, or pick it up at one of our conveniently located  Visitor Centres.

    Activate your card
The City Card has two components; entrance to museums and attractions, and public transport. Each component is activated separately at first use. So the first time you visit a museum or attraction, or use public transport.

    Use your card
To visit museums and attractions, simply show your City Card at the ticket counter. Traveling by public transport is really easy with the City Card. Just scan your card when entering any bus, tram or metro.

Good to know

Your City Card has two chips that are activated separately. One chip activates when first entering a museum or attraction. The other chip activates when first using public transport. After activation each chip in your City Card is valid for 24, 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours, depending on your card purchase.

Present your City Card at the ticket counter of participating museums and attractions and you will gain entrance. At the Rijksmuseum, you can skip the line and present your City Card at a separate desk.

The City Card is valid on all transport by GVB. You can recognize the GVB by their blue logo. The GVB operates the bus, tram, metro and ferry lines in Amsterdam. The night bus is also included. To check into GVB transport you hold your City Card in front of the scanner on the bus, tram or metro. When you’re getting off, hold your card in front of the scanner again to check out.

You can use your City Card to book a canal cruise at all major canal tour operators. There is no need to book ahead, just hop on a canal boat of your choice at a time that suits you.

To visit the Van Gogh Museum you are required to book a time slot in advance. You can do this up to two months in advance. To book a time slot you can use the order number on your City Card voucher. This voucher will be send to you via e-mail right after your purchase. Another option is to use the number on the back of your physical City Card. The time slot booking page can be found here.
