Our club

Ajax is 125 years old. A true milestone in the 750-year history of the capital. In the hall of the City Archives on the Vijzelgracht in Amsterdam, the exhibition one club, one city, Ajax Amsterdam tells the story of the club and the city.

About boys with a ball who start a club, about growth and professionalisation, about good and bad times for the city and for the club, about local talent and international stars, about pioneering female athletes and about the many forms that love for a club can take.

The big stars of Ajax

Sports historian Jurryt van de Vooren delved into the archives for this exhibition in search of special stories. Using photos, documents from the archive, film footage and video portraits, 125 years of Ajax and Amsterdam are on display.

Louis van Gaal talks about growing up in Watergraafsmeer, Jari Litmanen about his arrival at the club, Isa Kardinaal explains what it means to her to be able to wear the Ajax shirt and Mister Ajax Sjaak Swart goes back to the golden years, between 1965 and 1975.

The exhibition of course shows sporting highlights, by means of historical radio and television images and a small number of unique historical objects, such as the medal with the original Ajax logo from 1924. However, Ajax is more than players, trainers, and a stadium. Supporters also make the club what it is today. This exhibition also pays attention to their personal stories.

Practical information

The exhibition is suitable for young and old. Visitors can wander through the history of Ajax and Amsterdam. Those who are tired can rest in the supporters' café. There is a special audio tour for children.

The exhibition will be on display at the Amsterdam City Archives from April 25 to August 31. The exhibition will be opened festively by Jari Litmanen on 24 April.

Digital tours for inhabitants of care homes

If you live in a care home and are unable to attend the exhibition physically, you can take an interactive, digital tour of the facility. The inhabitants will be taken on a live tour through the exhibition. Together with VindiQu, sport historian Jurry van de Vooren has combed through the archives for unique stories to present during the tour.
