The Amsterdam City Archives is housed in the beautiful De Bazel building from 1926 (the former headquarters of the Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij), named after the architect Karel de Bazel. Many architectural and decorative elements in both the building and the exterior recall the fascinating past of the largest bank in the Netherlands. During the tour, an expert will take you through the entire building. Discover the art deco Treasury, see the old boiler room, explore the monumental period rooms with a colonial past and listen to fascinating stories, including the story of the bullet in the clock.
A visit to the historical information center, where all information about Amsterdam residents and their city can be found, is also on the program. For more information and to book a tour, go to:Tickets Activities — Amsterdam City Archives (ticketteam.com)
Be sure to watch the historical films about Amsterdam from the 20th century and don't forget to enjoy a cup of coffee and cake in Café de Bazel.
