De Schuur

For more than 40 years, the Schuur in Haarlem has been a leading contemporary home for Dutch theatre, dance and film. As one of the pioneers of the 'flat floor theatre' in the Netherlands, the Schuur has grown into a theatre where exploratory art and new repertoires are created and presented.
De Schuur
Theatre
Every year, numerous productions and important performances of the subsidised range of theatre and modern dance are presented in the two theater halls.
Cinema
The cinemas show a broad program of the most important films from the arthouse circuit. In the early 1990s, the overwhelming growth of public interest made it necessary to look for new housing.
Joost Swarte and Mecanoo Architecten
The theater and film house is located on the Lange Begijnestraat, designed by comic artist Joost Swarte and Mecanoo Architecten. It is located right next to the Concertgebouw, and is bordered by the Lange Begijnestraat, the Korte Begijnestraat, the Wijde Appelaarsteeg and the 'Hofje van Bakenes'.
The location is characterised by a finely meshed, small-scale urban structure. By dividing the building into separate parts, the contemporary architecture fits in with this structure.
Café
There is a café in the theatre shed that is open on days when performances are played.
