Amsterdam exists for 750 years, and this will be celebrated with a special edition of the Elderly Song Contest. Every person over age 55 can participate as a soloist, a duo, or a trio. The participant chooses the song. Any genre is welcome, in any language. There is only one condition: the song must be about Amsterdam. You don't feel like competing? Come join the audience.

Songs of the City

Ode to Mokum is a special edition of the Elderly Song Contest in honor of the city's 750th anniversary. This is a festive song contest for singing talents of age 55 and over, who want to celebrate the city with songs about Amsterdam.

There are four preliminary rounds and the Grande Finale. The preliminary rounds will be held in four different monumental urban recovery locations. The final will be held in Theater Amsterdam, the majestic theater on the IJ in the young Houthaven district.

In the preliminary round, all candidates are accompanied by the Ode to Mokum Quintet, conducted by Kees van Zantwijk. In the final, music will be played by his ten-piece Ode to Mokum Orchestra.

An expert jury chaired by Ben Lansink determines who will advance to the final and ultimately who will be the winner of this festive edition. Eva Zwaving will host Ode to Mokum.
